Let \(M^o\) be a subspace of a metric space \(M\), \(X\) a Banach space, and \(\text{Lip}(M,X)\) the set of all Lipschitz functions \(f:M\to X\). The following theorem is the main result of the paper: If \(M^o\) carries a doubling measure \(\mu ^o\), then there exists a linear operator \(E:\text{Lip}(M^o,X)\to \text{Lip}(M,X)\) such that \((Ef)| _{M^o}=f\) for each \(f\in \text{Lip}(M^o,X)\), and the norm of \(E\) is controlled by logarithm of the doubling constant of \(\mu ^o\). The proof is constructive; the extension operator \(E\) is defined by the standard average operator. The extension result of \textit{J. R. Lee} and \textit{A. Naor} [Ivent. Math. 160, No. 1, 59--95 (2005; Zbl 1074.46004)] is a consequence of this theorem.
