For determinantal varieties, Cohen-Macaulay and Gorenstein properties are well understood and a minimal free resolution of the coordinate ring is known. The author extends this analysis to the orthogonal and symplectic analogues of determinantal varieties. Namely, determinantal varieties corresponds to the closures of orbits for the action of SL\((K^e)\times \text{SL}(K^f)\) over \(V=K^e\otimes K^f\), where \(K\) here is an algebraically closed field of characteristic \(0\). The author defines the orthogonal (resp. symplectic) analogue, by looking at the closures of orbits under the action of the group SL\((K^e)\times\text{O}(K^f)\) (resp. SL\((K^e)\times\text{Sp}(K^f)\)). The three aforementioned groups are the only ones supporting doubly infinite families, in Kac's classification of representations of connected reductive groups with finitely many orbits. For these orthogonal and symplectic analogues, the author determines a minimal free resolution of the coordinate ring, and studies the Cohen--Macaulay and Gorestein properties.
