A theorem of \textit{D. Orlov} [J. Math. Sci., New York 84, No. 5, 1361--1381 (1997; Zbl 0938.14019)] states that every fully faithful exact functor between the bounded derived categories \(D(X)\) and \(D(Y)\) of coherent sheaves on smooth projective varieties is a Fourier-Mukai transform. In the present paper, the authors extend this result to the case of bounded derived categories of twisted coherent sheaves and weaken the hypothesis on the functor. Let \((X,\alpha)\) and \((Y,\beta)\) be twisted smooth projective varieties, that means \(X\) and \(Y\) are smooth projective and \(\alpha\) (resp. \(\beta\)) is a class in the cohomological Brauer group \(H^2_{\text{ét}}(X, {\mathcal O}_X^{\ast})\) of \(X\) (resp. \(Y\)). The main theorem states that if \(F: D(X,\alpha) \to D(Y,\beta)\) is an exact functor such that, for any \(\mathcal F\) and \(\mathcal G\) coherent \(\alpha\)-twisted sheaves on \(X\), there are no morphism in \(D(Y,\beta)\) between \(F({\mathcal F})\) and \(F({\mathcal G})[j]\) for any \(j<0\), then \(F\) is a twisted Fourier-Mukai functor. This means there exists \(\mathcal E\) in \(D (X \times Y, \gamma)\), with \(\gamma\) given by tensor product of the pull-backs of \(\alpha^{-1}\) and \(\beta\), uniquely determined up to isomorphism such that \(F\) is isomorphic to the Fourier-Mukai with kernel \(\mathcal E\). The proof of the theorem is not just standard generalization of Orlov's result, but is inspired by \textit{D. Orlov} [loc. cit.] and by \textit{J. Kawamata} [Am. J. Math. 126, 1057--1083 (2004; Zbl 1076.14023)]. As an application, the authors completely describe the exact functors between the abelian categories of twisted coherent sheaves on smooth projective varieties.
