Let I be an open interval in R. The authors call a function f: \(I\to R\) perfect iff the level set \(\{x\in I:\;f(x)=c\}\) is a perfect set in I for any \(c\in R\). They prove: Let I be an open interval in R and F be a countable system of real continuous functions defined on I. Then there exists a real continuous function g such that g-f is perfect for any \(f\in F.\) For a countable system \(\{\lambda Id_ I:\lambda\in \Lambda \}\), where \(Id_ I\) is the identity map of I and \(\Lambda\) is a countable subset of R, the theorem was proved by \textit{J. Malý} [Real Anal. Exch. 12(1986/87), 176-179 (1987; Zbl 0642.26003)] The main ideas for the construction of g are in both cases the same. J. Malý works with ``admissible'' functions - functions which have in I finitely many strict local minima with jumps of both sides and which are linear on any component of the rest. The authors use the notion of quasi- local extremum. The quasi-local extremum is a strict local extremum, for which the level set for the value in this extremum is at most countable.
