Existence results are established for (variational) boundary problems for a possibly degenerate second order quasilinear elliptic equation in bounded or unbounded domains. The results depend on monotonicity approach from \textit{J. Leray} and \textit{J. L. Lions} [Bull. Soc. Math. Fr. 93, 97- 107 (1965; Zbl 0132.105)].
