The goal of this note is to study partial regularity for weak solutions to nonlinear parabolic systems when certain degeneracy is present, so that the author needs to avoid the unvailable Gehring Lemma. He introduces its parabolic variance: the ``heat approximation'', showing that a function which is approximately solution to a heat equation in a parabolic cylinder will be \(L^2\)-close to some heat solution in a small cylinder. Making use of this heat approximation in such scalar cylinder and applying a scaling argument to reflect the degeneracy of the considered nonlinear parabolic system, the author proves that the solution \(u\) is locally Hölder continuous.
