A positive integer n is said to be perfect if \(\sigma (n)=2n\), where, as usual, \(\sigma\) (n) denotes the sum of the positive divisors of n. To date thirty (not thirty-nine as is stated in both the title and text of this paper) even perfect numbers have been found. Whether or not any odd perfect numbers exist is still an open question. In the present paper a number of elementary results concerning even perfect numbers are stated and in a few cases are proved. None is new. The thirty even perfect numbers are also identified. (The reviewer suggests that anyone interested in reading more about perfect numbers should obtain the December, 1985 issue of Science Digest or \textit{S. Wagon}'s article in Math. Intell. 7, No.2, 66-68 (1985; Zbl 0558.10004).
