    [For the preceding parts see Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 82, 377-381 (1981; Zbl 0484.47031) and J. Aust. Math. Soc., Ser. A 38, 118-129 (1985; Zbl 0569.47047).] We consider a continuous selfmap A of a metric space (X,d) and a continuous mapping B of \(X\times X\to R_ 0\) where \(R_ 0=[0,\infty)\), with the induced usual topology of the reals. We establish here some theorems which guarantee the convergence of some subsequence of the sequence \(\{A^ nx\}\) to a fixed point of A under conditions like B(Ay,p)\(\leq B(y,p)\) where \(p\in F(A)\), the set of fixed points of A. Some other theorems have also been derived. The theorems are generalizations of some theorems of Petryshyn and Williamson for Banach spaces.
