The author solves the Cauchy problem for the equation \[ u_ t(t,x)=\Delta \psi (u(t,x))\quad (t>0,\quad x\in {\mathbb{R}}^ N) \] with \(u(0,x)=u_ 0(x)\), where \(u_ 0\in L^ 1({\mathbb{R}}^ N)\cap L^{\infty}({\mathbb{R}}^ N)\) and \(\psi\) : \({\mathbb{R}}\to {\mathbb{R}}^+\) is increasing and locally Lipschitz with \(\psi (0)=0\). The main tool is the approximation theorem for nonlinear semigroups [see \textit{H. Brezis} and \textit{A. Pazy}, J. Funct. Anal. 9, 63-74 (1972; Zbl 0231.47036)].
