It is of great interest to find pointwise estimates on the Bergman and Szegö kernel functions and their derivatives. This goal was recently accomplished in several major papers for pseudoconvex domains of finite type in \({\mathbb{C}}^ 2\). [See the article by \textit{A. Nagel}, \textit{J. P. Rosay}, \textit{E. M. Stein}, and \textit{S. Wainger}, Ann. Math. 129, 113-149 (1989) and its bibliography.] In higher dimensions, the problem seems intractable because the set where the Levi form degenerates can be extremely complicated. In this paper, the author makes progress on a special case. He obtains estimates on the Szegö kernel and its derivatives for pseudoconvex domains in \({\mathbb{C}}^ n\) of finite type (in the sense of Kohn) having Levi form with at least n-2 positive eigenvalues at each point (and hence at most one zero eigenvalue).
