The author considers approval voting in the sense of \textit{P. C. Fishburn} [ibid. 19, 180-185 (1978; Zbl 0397.90007)]. A set of axioms is proposed which is shown to characterize a particular approval voting function which differs from the one proposed by Fishburn only in its values at profiles where the empty set is approved by everyone, in which case the empty set is chosen.
