The article of this volume will not be reviewed individually. The book reflects the research efforts of the Groningen Soar Research Group. It deals mainly with the two topics: road user behavior and temporal organization of behavior. But Soar is also considered as the architecture for intelligence and the Soar system will probably play an important, integrative role within cognitive science in bringing together important subdomains of psychology, computer science, linguistics, and neurosciences. It is claimed in the book that Soar is one of the most advanced and theoretically best motivated architectures presently available. The work contains six technical papers and the paper titled `Allen Newell: A Portrait'. The first technical paper is a background paper with the title Unified Theories of Cognition: The Role of Soar. Two papers are devoted to planning and their titles are: On a Computational Model of Human Planning; and Means-Ends Planning: An Example Soar System. The two other paper deal with the construction of a general model of the automobile driver. They are titled: Multitasking in Driving; and Flattening Goal Hierarchies. The last paper -- Knowledge Level and Inductive Uses of Chunking (EBL) --- deals with some aspects of explanation-based learning (EBL). The book contains an authorized list of recommended readings for those who want to become informed about Soar.
