Without specifying the meaning of the technical terms, the main result of the present paper is the following: If \(D\) is an open connected subset of \({\mathbb R}^n\), \(A\subseteq D\) a locally almost convex subset, and \(D\), \(A\) satisfy the small neighbourhood condition, then every intrinsic isometry of \(A\) can be uniquely extended to an isometry of \(D\). It is used to show that (i) the union of rational hyperplanes, (ii) the union of rational lines together with the union of rational coordinate hyperplanes, and (iii) the union of rational spheres are rigid subsets of \({\mathbb R}^n\). As countable unions of \((n-1)\)-dimensional subsets these three sets have topological dimension and Hausdorff dimensional \(n-1\). The case \(n=1\) has been studied by \textit{V. A. Aleksandrov} [Sib. Math. J. 34, No. 6, 999-1004 (1993); translation from Sib. Mat. Zh. 34, No. 6, 3-9 (1993; Zbl 0852.54030)].
