The author considers the lump mass method with piecewise linear finite elements in two dimensions. A special attention is given in finding bounds on the discrete semigroup and resolvent. The Delauney condition and the maximum principle are discussed. It is also proved that the discrete semigroup is \(\ell^p\) contractive in a sector and this implies smoothing effects and provides some resolvent estimates.
