The study is concerned with an augmentation of a three-way decision model realized with the use of intuitionistic fuzzy numbers. In essence, the advantage of three-way decision processes is associated with the quantification of decision process comprising yes-no-don't know (postpone) outcomes. Bringing intuitionistic fuzzy sets/numbers requires a generalization of the existing model. The study offers a systematic formulation of the optimization problem (loss function) associated with the determination of optimal threshold values and analyzes their impact on the performance of the resulting decision rules. The relationships between the loss function and the attributes expressed in terms of intuitionistic fuzzy numbers are elaborated on. An analysis of the classification rules of the three-way decision process is provided. Its comprehensive parametric study is covered. An illustrative example showing a decision process of supplier selection is included along with some comparative analysis.
