    Consider the class of functions \(f\) representable as \[ f(x) = a_0 + \int_{-\pi}^{\pi} g(x+t) \psi_r(t) \,dt, \] where \(g\) is a \(2\pi\)-periodic continuous function and \[ \psi_r(t) = \sum_{k=1}^{\infty} \frac{\sin{kt}}{k^r}. \] The authors announce an exact Jackson-type inequality in the uniform norm for the best approximation of \(f\) by trigonometric polynomials. In some cases, the argument of the modulus of continuity in this inequality is the least possible. A linear approximation method is constructed. Further, for \(f\) in \(C[0,1]\) or \(C(\mathbb R)\), the authors study uniform approximation of \(f\) by polygonal lines interpolating \(f\) at given nodes. For equidistant nodes and for the best choice of nodes, exact Jackson-type inequalities are given with the least possible argument of the modulus of continuity.
