Als Zustandsgleichung eines festen Körpers schlagt Verf. die Gleichung \[ \left(p + \frac a{v^2}\right) (v-b)=\lambda + RT \] vor, worin \(a\) und \(\lambda\) als Konstante angesehen werden können, \(b\) dagegen vom Volumen \(v\) in folgender Weise abhängt: \[ b=\frac{b_g}{1+\dfrac\varphi v} \] (\(b_g\) und \(\varphi\) Konstante). Es werden so gewisse Schwierigkeiten, welche bei der von \textit{Grüneisen} angegebenen Zustandsgleichung auftreten, vermieden; überdies ergibt sich eine gute numerische Übereinstimmung mit den Versuchsergebnissen für festes Kupfer.
