Es werden Formeln aufgestellt, und zwar auf Grund der allgemeinen Elasticitätstheorie und des Huygens'schen Princips, für die Schwächung, welche Lichtwellen beim Durchgang durch mit Materie erfüllte Räume erfahren, insbesondere in Abhängigkeit von der Wellenlänge. Es ergiebt sich, dass schon Luft ohne Fremdkörper eine Blaufärbung bewirken muss.
