    Seien \(\xi\), \(\eta\) die Coordinaten des gegebenen Punktes und sei \(x^2/a^2 + y^2/b^2 = 1\) die Gleichung der Ellipse. Man mache \(\xi\), \(\eta\) zum Anfangspunkte der Cordinaten und beziehe die Ellipse auf diesen, indem man \(\varrho\) und \(\theta\) als Polarcoordinaten von Punkten der Ellipse einführt. Die Intensität des magnetischen Feldes der Ellipse im Punkte \(\xi\), \(\eta\) ist dann \[ H = \int _0^{2\pi} \;\frac {d\theta}{\varrho}\,, \quad\text{bez.} \] \[ H = \frac {ab}{a^2b^2 - b^2\xi^2 - a^2\eta^2} \;\int_0^{2\pi} \;d\theta \sqrt {f^2\cos^2\,\theta + 2h^2\cos\,\theta \,\sin\,\theta + g^2\sin^2\,\theta}\,, \] wo \(f^2 = b^2 - \eta^2\), \(g^2 = a^2 - \xi^2\), \(h^2 = \xi \eta\). Sei \[ \begin{aligned} \varPhi^2 + X^2 & = f^2 + g^2 \\ \varPhi^2X^2 & = f^2g^2 - h^4,\;\text{ so erhält man}\end{aligned} \] \[ H = \frac {ab}{\varPhi^2X^2} \;\int_0^{2\pi} \;d\theta \sqrt {\varPhi^2\cos^2\,\theta + X^2\,\sin^2\,\theta} = \frac {4ab}{\varPhi^2X^2} \;E(\varPhi, X)\, \] wo \[ E(\varPhi, X) = \int_0^{\tfrac 12 \pi} \;d\theta \sqrt {\varPhi^2\cos^2\,\theta + X^2\,\sin^2\,\theta} \] ein elliptisches Integral zweiter Gattung ist, das der Verf. nach Cayley, Elliptische Integrale, Cap. 13, für \(a =\) 10,5419 und \(b =\) 10,5340 Zoll engl., \(\omega = 55^\circ\), \(r =\) 0,1 bis 7 ausgewertet und zur Berechnung von \(H\) benutzt hat.
