    Let \(\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^ m\), \(\Omega' \subset \mathbb{R}^ n\) be domains, and let \(\varphi:\Omega \to \mathbb{R}\), \(f:\Omega \to \Omega'\) be continuous. Some necessary and sufficient conditions are given under which the couple \((\varphi,f)\) preserves harmonicity, that is \(\varphi (h \circ f) \in H (\Omega)\) for all \(h \in H (\Omega')\). As a consequence it is further shown that if \((\varphi,f)\) preserves harmonicity and \(m=n\), then \(f\) is conformal; if \(m<n\) (and \((\varphi,f)\) preserves harmonicity), then \(f\) is a constant mapping.
