The authors consider a supersonic nonequilibrium flow of a multicomponent viscous gas around a smooth axially symmetric blunt body within the framework of viscous shock layer model, by applying a relaxation method based on a high-order accurate implicit finite difference scheme. The results obtained show that the algorithm is both accurate and highly efficient. Its implementation requires substantially less computing resources as compared to the traditional second-order accurate schemes.
