By pioneering work of \textit{J. W. Milnor} [Am. J. Math. 82, 505--521 (1960; Zbl 0095.16702)] a unitary manifold bounds a unitary manifold if and only if all its Chern numbers vanish. Therefore it is natural to ask whether equivariant Chern numbers determine the equivariant bordism type of unitary \(T^k\)-manifolds, i.e., of manifolds equipped with actions of a torus \(T^k\) preserving the unitary structure. It has been shown by \textit{T. tom Dieck} [Topology 9, 345--358 (1970; Zbl 0209.27504); Invent. Math. 13, 213--224 (1971; Zbl 0216.45403); J. Pure Appl. Algebra 4, 31--39 (1974; Zbl 0282.57021)] that the answer to this question is positive if one considers $K$-theoretic equivariant Chern numbers. Later it has been conjectured by \textit{V. Guillemin} et al. [Moment maps, cobordisms, and Hamiltonian group actions. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS) (2002; Zbl 1197.53002)] that this also holds for ordinary (Borel-) equivariant cohomology Chern numbers. \par The paper under review proves this conjecture. To do so the authors employ the Kronecker pairing between unitary bordism and cobordism and a geometric description of the universal toric genus given by \textit{V. Buchstaber} et al. [Int. Math. Res. Not. 2010, No. 16, 3207--3262 (2010; Zbl 1206.57039)].
