In this paper Rotary mappings on Riemannian manifolds are studied. Rotary mappings were introduced by \textit{S. G. Leĭko} [Math. Notes 47, No. 3, 261--264 (1990; Zbl 0707.53036); translation from Mat. Zametki 47, No. 3, 52--57 (1990)]. Leiko established several physical significances of rotary mappings. A mapping of a 2-dimensional (pseudo-)Riemannian space \(V_2\) to a space with affine connection \(A_2\) is called a rotary mapping if it takes any geodesic of \(A_2\) onto the isoperimetric extremal of rotation of the (pseudo-)Riemannian space \(V_2\). In this paper, the authors establish that a result of Leiko is not correct. In fact, they prove that there exist (pseudo-)Riemannian spaces \(V_2\) which are not isometric to surfaces of revolution, but admit rotary mappings onto spaces with affine connection \(A_2\). The result is very interesting.
