Classical Nielsen fixed point theory deals with the estimation of the number of fixed points in the homotopy class of a given self-map, see [\textit{B. Jiang}, Lectures on Nielsen fixed point theory. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS) (1983; Zbl 0512.55003)]. There are various generalizations and versions as coincidence theory, root theory, or intersection theory. Recently, \textit{Y. Gu} and \textit{X. Zhao} formalized the Nielsen type relation for the preimages of maps in the language of liftings to universal coverings [Bull. Belg. Math. Soc. - Simon Stevin 24, No. 4, 725--739 (2017; Zbl 1391.55001)] (one can also consider another attempt by \textit{R. Dobreńko} and \textit{Z. Kucharski} [Fundam. Math. 134, No. 1, 1--14 (1990; Zbl 0719.55002)]). Various averaging formulae with respect to finite-sheeted coverings were given in the literature for Lefschetz numbers, Nielsen numbers, and quite recently for Reidemeister traces by the authors [Topol. Methods Nonlinear Anal. 46, No. 1, 17--27 (2015; Zbl 1369.55002)] and \textit{J. B. Lee} and \textit{P. C. Staecker} [Bull. Belg. Math. Soc. - Simon Stevin 24, No. 4, 591--612 (2017; Zbl 1387.55002)]. In the present paper the authors define a correspondence between sets of preimage classes and define invariants similar to the Reidemeister trace in fixed point theory. Then an averaging formula is given for these new invariants. Finally the authors explain how this is a kind of a generalization of the one in the coincidence case.
