    The authors study the Cauchy problem to the one-dimensional relativistic Euler equations \( {\partial \over \partial t}{\rho + Pu^2/c^4\over 1-u^2/c^2}+{\partial \over \partial x}{(\rho + P/c^2)u\over 1-u^2/c^2} = 0 \), \( {\partial \over \partial t}{(\rho + P/c^2)u\over 1-u^2/c^2}+{\partial \over \partial x}{P + \rho u^2\over 1-u^2/c^2}=0\), \( \rho |_{t=0}=\rho _0(x)\), \( u |_{t=0}=u_0(x)\). Here \(c\) is the known speed of light, \(P\) is a given function of \(\rho \). The first two equations govern the one-dimensional motion of a perfect gas in the Minkovski space-time. In case \(c\to \infty \) they tend to the usual Euler equations of gas dynamics. In a model of neutron star it is given \(P=Kc^5f(y)\), \(\rho = Kc^3g(y)\), where \(f(y)=\int_{0}^{y}q^4(1+q^2)^{-1/2} dq\), \(g(y)=\int_{0}^{y}q^2(1+q^2)^{1/2} dq\). The main result is that for any \(M_0\) there is a positive number \(\varepsilon _0\) such that if the initial data satisfy \(0\leq \rho_0(x)\leq M_0\), \(|{c\over 2}\log {c+u_0(x)\over c-u_0(x)}|\leq M_0\) and if \(1/c^2\leq \varepsilon_0\), then a subsequence of the approximate solutions \(U^{\triangle }\) converges a.e. to a limit \(U\) which is a weak solution of the relativistic Euler equations. Actually, the authors generalize the known method of DiPerna and G.-Q. Chen et al. The initial data contain the vacuum state.
