The limiting distribution of the minimal solution to a linear diophantine equation with random coefficients is studied. That is: Let \(F_ N\) be the set of pairs \((p,q)\) of coprime positive integers such that \(p<q\) and \(\alpha N<q< \beta N\), where \(\alpha, \beta\in [0,1]\) are some constants. Then estimates (and geometric interpretations of these estimates) for the following quantity \[ v_ N (I_ 1\times I_ 2)= \#(\{ (p,q)\in F_ N:\;p/q\in I_ 1,\;| x|/ q\in I_ 2\})- 2\lambda (I_ 1) \lambda (I_ 2) \# (F_ N) \] are given. Here \(I_ 1\), \(I_ 2\) are any measurable sets in \([0, 1]\) resp. in \([0, 1/2]\), \(\lambda\) is Lebesgue measure, and \(x\) is the solution of \(px- qy =1\) with \(| x|\leq 9/2\).
