100th anniversary of the Jagiellonian University Student's Maths Society (Q1903419)

This is a short history of the oldest Polish mathematical organization, the Students' Mathematical Society, founded in Kraków in December 1893. It really started to work in 1900 under the presidency of Antoni Hoborski, later a well-known geometer. At a time when mathematical monographs, especially in Polish, were in short supply, the society started publishing lecture notes taken from lecture courses of their professors. The first one was based on S. Zaremba's lectures and published as ``Introduction to Mathematical Analysis'' in 1902. During its long and eventful history the society organized scientific meetings, combined mathematics with tourism, published society calendars etc. Under Stalinist and Post-Stalinist rule the society had to interrupt its activities between 1950 and 1959. The work of the society is now lively as ever and many former Kraków students are keeping contacts with their alma mater through the Student's Mathematical Society.
