This book provides compact foundations of the mechanics of continua. After an introduction into continuum mechanics, the authors present applications to fluids, first of rather general kind, and then to the classical Euler, Navier-Stokes and non-Newtonian fluids. The book contains eleven chapters: 1. Bodies, configurations and motions; 2. Kinematics and basic laws; 3. Constitutive equations, reduced constitutive equations and internal constraints; 4. Simple fluids; 5. Flows of incompressible fluids in general; 6. Some flows of particular nonlinear fluids; 7. Some flows of fluids of grade two; 8. Navier-Stokes fluids; 9. Incompressible Euler fluids; 10. Compressible Euler fluids; 11. Singular surfaces and waves. An appendix brings together some elementary results from real analysis. Each chapter also contains exercises.
