The quaternion group \(Q_8=\{i,j\mid i^4=i^2j^{-2}=ijij^{-1}=e\}\) has five real representations: The trivial representation, three different one-dimensional representations coming from quotients \(Q_8\to \mathbb{Z}/2\), and a four-dimensional representation \(\rho\) with basis \(\{1,i,j,ij\}\). And so the \(RO(Q_8)\)-graded equivariant cohomology for this group is graded with five indices. Lu gives an explicit \(Q_8\)-\(CW\) construction of \(S(n\rho)\), the (\(4n-1\))-dimensional sphere in \(n\rho \), as well as the attaching maps. Note that \(S(\infty \rho)=EQ_8\), the universal classifying space. The author then computes the (co)homology of suspensions of \(S(n\rho)\) by other representations by building double complexes and totalizing them. Some helpful visualizations of these double complexes are provided. The stated purpose of the paper is to compute the graded coefficients of \(H\underline{\mathbb{Z}}\), the Eilenberg-MacLane spectrum for the constant \(\mathbb{Z}\) Mackey functor. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the answer is quite complicated, and a good deal of substitution would be required in practice to find a specific desired (co)homology group from the chain formulas given in the main result.
