This nice article is the meeting point between two exciting directions of research: on the one hand, Gowers's program on inevitable classes of Banach spaces, initiated by Gowers's famous dichotomy on the containment of an HI subspace or an unconditional basic sequence and persued in particular in the works of V. Ferenczi and C. Rosendal; on the other hand, the study of descriptive complexity of isomorphic classes of separable Banach spaces, initiated by B. Bossard and continued for instance in the deep works of S. Argyros, P. Dodos and O. Kurka on strongly bounded classes. In the present paper, elaborate tools from the geometry of Banach spaces and topology are used to evaluate the complexity of some classes of Banach spaces. Among many interesting results, it is shown that the class of HI spaces is coanalytic non Borel, and the class of spaces which contain an unconditional basic sequence is analytic non Borel. Natural questions along these lines remain open: for instance, it is not known whether the class of spaces which have a basis is Borel although it is clearly analytic. In a recent related work, \textit{G. Ghawadrah} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 144, No. 1, 285--299 (2016; Zbl 1346.46016)] has shown that, as soon as a reflexive Orlicz function space \(X\) is not isomorphic to \(L^2\), it contains uncountably many non-isomorphic complemented subspaces and, moreover, the isomorphism class of \(X\) is analytic non Borel.
