Let X be a set. A convex structure on X is a collection of subsets of X (called convex sets) which is closed under intersections and updirected unions. The smallest convex set containing a given set A is the hull of A and is denoted by h(A). The hull of a finite set is called a polytope. The convex structure on X is join-hull commutative provided that for every nonempty convex set D and every \(x\in X\) we have \(h(D\cup \{x\})=\cup_{d\in D}h(\{d,x\}).\) If X is a topological space then the convex structure is called topological in case all polytopes are closed. The author shows that topological convexities satisfying certain additional natural conditions are join-hull commutative in case the dimension of the underlying topological space is at most 2. The proof is based on a careful evaluation of certain convexity invariants. By means of examples it is demonstrated that the main result fails if these invariants assume larger values.
