We consider the following boundary-value problem for a nonautonomous equation of second order (\(\epsilon\) is a small positive parameter): \[ (1)\quad \epsilon^ 2\frac{d^ 2u}{dx^ 2}=f(u,x,\epsilon),\quad 0<x<1,\quad (2)\quad u(0,\epsilon)=u(1,\epsilon)=0. \] Let the degenerate equation \(f(u,x,0)=0\) have two roots \(u=\phi_ 1(x)\) and \(u=\phi_ 2(x)\) and let these roots be saddle type stationary points for the equation \((3)\quad d^ 2u/d\tau^ 2=f(u,x,0)\) (x is fixed) and for certain x the saddles be joined by separatrices, so that a cell is formed. Then, problem (1), (2) can have a solution with an inner transition layer. We consider the case where the equation \(f(u,x,0)=0\) has a root \(u=\phi (x)\) that is a saddle-type stationary point for (3), and the separatrix forms a loop. It turns out that in this case problem (1), (2) can have a solution with a ``splash'' type inner layer. In Section 2 we construct the asymptotic of this solution with respect to the parameter \(\epsilon\) and in Section 3 we prove the existence of a solution and obtain an estimate of the remainder term of the asymptotic. The possibility of the existence of a solution of similar type was noted earlier by the second author, \textit{V. A. Tupchiev} and \textit{A. N. Yarkin} [Analit. Met. Teor. Nelin. Koleb. 1, Trudy 5 Mezhdunarod. Konf. 1969, 149-157 (1970; Zbl 0246.34057)]. Let us observe that these solutions are of interest in the theory of self-organization - they are called the contrast structures.
