Let \(A\subseteq B\) be an integral extension of rings. The weak normalization \(\ast_BA\) and the seminormalization \(+_BA\) of \(A\) in \(B\) are defined by \(\ast_BA=\{b\in B\mid\) for every \(\mathfrak{p}\in\) Spec(A) there exists \(n\in\mathbb{N}\) such that \((b/1)^{p^n}\in A_{\mathfrak{p}}+\mathrm{Rad}(B_{\mathfrak{p}})\}\) and \(+_BA=\{b\in B\mid (b/1)\in A_{\mathfrak{p}}+\mathrm{Rad}(B_{\mathfrak{p}})\) for every \(\mathfrak{p}\in\) Spec(A)\(\}\), where \(p\) is the characteristic exponent of the field \(k(\mathfrak{p})\)=\(A_{\mathfrak{p}}/\mathfrak{p}\) \({A_{\mathfrak{p}}}\) and \(\mathrm{Rad}(B_{\mathfrak{p}})\) is the Jacobson radical of \(B_{\mathfrak{p}}\). The weak normalization of an abstract scheme was introduced by \textit{A. Andreotti} and \textit{E. Bombieri} [Ann. Sc. Norm. Super. Pisa, Sci. Fis. Mat., III. Ser. 23, 431--450 (1969; Zbl 0184.24503)] as a generalization of the weak normalization of a complex analytic variety defined earlier by \textit{A. Andreotti} and \textit{F. Norguet} [Ann. Sc. Norm. Super. Pisa, Sci. Fis. Mat., III. Ser. 21, 31--82 (1967; Zbl 0176.04001)]. The related and more algebraic notion of seminormalization was introduced by \textit{C. Traverso} [Ann. Sc. Norm. Super. Pisa, Sci. Fis. Mat., III. Ser. 24, 585--595 (1970; Zbl 0205.50501)]. In the paper under review, the author studies several aspects of the weak normalization in a graded extension of commutative rings. Also, the author proves several properties of the weak subintegral closure of an ideal, a concept introduced by Vitulli and Leahy.
