Let \(\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^ N\) \((N \geq 4)\) be a bounded domain with smooth boundary \(\partial \Omega\). In this note, we prove the existence of a nontrivial solution of the following semilinear elliptic equation with critical Sobolev exponent \[ -\Delta u=K(x)| u |^{4/(N- 2)}u+a(x)u \text{ in } \Omega,\quad u=0 \text{ on } \partial \Omega, \] where \(a(x)\), \(K(x) \in C(\overline\Omega)\); \(K(x) \geq 0\), \(K(x) \not\equiv 0\) and \(a(x)>0\) somewhere [cf. \textit{H. Brezis}, Directions in p.d.e., 17-36 (1987; Zbl 0699.35075)].
