The authors study the concept of generalized Riemann derivative and introduce some reasons of studying it. Also, they study the concept of generalized Peano derivative or briefly generalized derivative in order to find some necessary and sufficient conditions for a generalized derivative to have the weak mean value property. This allow them to answer a related question due to \textit{J. M. Ash} and \textit{R. Jones} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 101, No.~2, 263--271 (1987; Zbl 0645.26005)]. Moreover, they give some examples of the concept of weak mean value property concerning re-estimating error of some well-known methods in numerical analysis. This talk report does not contain complete proofs and as the authors mention, one can find details in another forthcoming work of the authors.
