In this paper the author shows an interesting result concerning the determination of \(\mathrm{GL}_2\) cusp forms by twists of critical \(L\)-values for any number fields under suitable conditions. This generalizes the work of \textit{W. Luo} and \textit{D. Ramakrishnan} [Invent. Math. 130, No. 2, 371--398 (1997; Zbl 0905.11024)] that treats the homomorphic eigenforms over \(\mathbb Q\) but without any assumption. The main theorem is as follows. Let \(\pi, \pi'\) be two self-contragradient cuspidal automorphic representations of \(\mathrm{GL}_2\) over a number field \(F\) and \(S\) be a finite set of places of \(F\) containing all archimedean and the ramified ones for \(\pi\) and \(\pi'\). Suppose there is a non-zero constant \(\kappa\) such that \(L(1/2,\pi\otimes \chi_D)=\kappa L(1/2,\pi'\otimes \chi_D)\) for all prime-to-\(S\) integral ideals \(D\) of \(F\). Then \(\pi\simeq \pi'\) provided that (1) the central character \(\chi_\pi\) is not trivial, or (2) \(\chi_\pi\) is trivial and there is a Hecke character \(\chi\) such that \(\varepsilon(1/2,\pi\otimes \chi)=1\).
