    Let \(C\) be a closed convex subset of a uniformly smooth Banach space \(E\) and \(T\) a nonexpansive selfmap of \(C\) with \(F(T) \neq \emptyset\). Given a point \(u \in C\) and an initial guess \(x_0 \in C\), the author proves the strong convergence of the iteration scheme defined by \(z_n = \gamma_nx_n + (1 - \gamma_n)Tx_n\), \(y_n = \beta_nx_n + (1 - \beta_n)Tz_n\), \(x_{n+1} = \alpha_nu + (1 - \alpha_n)Ty_n\). Reviewer's remark: \textit{H.--K.\ Xu} [Bull.\ Aust.\ Math.\ Soc.\ 65, 109--113 (2002; Zbl 1030.47036)] already solved this problem using the much simpler Wittmann process \(x_{n+1} = \alpha_nu + (1 - \alpha_n)Tx_n\). This reviewer sees little merit in defining successively more complicated iteration processes in order to solve a fixed point problem, when simpler iteration processes are available.
