    Let \(X\) be a Banach space, \({\mathcal L}(X)\) the Banach algebra of a bounded linear operator of \(X\) into itself. A non-empty collection \({\mathcal T}\subseteq{\mathcal L}(X)\) is called \(R\)-bounded, if for a certain \(M> 0\), the \(L^2\)-norm of \(\|\sum^n_{j=1} r_j(t) T_j x_j\|\) is less than or equal to \(M\) times the \(L^2\)-norm of \(\|\sum^n_{j=1} r_j(t) x_j\|\) for all \((T_j)^n_{j=1}\subseteq{\mathcal T}\), \(x_i\in X\), \(n\in\mathbb{N}\setminus\{0\}\). Let \(G\) be a locally compact Abelian group and \({\mathcal B}(\widehat G)\) the Borel \(\sigma\)-algebra on its dual group \(\widehat G\). A representation \(\Psi: L^1(G)\to{\mathcal L}(X)\) is called essential, if the span of \(\bigcup_{f\in L^1(G)}\Psi(f)X\) is dense in \(X\). The authors prove theorems concerning the integral representations of \(\Psi: L^1(G)\to{\mathcal L}(X)\). For example, if such a \(\Psi\) is an essential representation which is Fourier \(R\)-bounded (i.e. the set \(\{\Psi(f): f\in L^1(G)\), \(\|\widehat f\|_\infty\leq 1\}\) is \(R\)-bounded in \({\mathcal L}(X)\)), then there exists an \(R\)-bounded, set \(\sigma\)-additive spectral measure \(P:{\mathcal B}(\widehat G)\to{\mathcal L}(X)\) such that \(\Psi(f)= \int_G\widehat f\,dP\) for all \(f\in L^1(G)\). The converse statement is also proved.
