The paper deals with the equation of Tricomi type \[ x''+cx'+h(x)=\beta\,, \] where the \(2\pi\)-periodic function \(h(x)\) is defined by \(h(x)=x\) for \(x\in [-\pi/2,\,\pi/2]\) and \(h(x)=-x+\pi\) for \(x\in [\pi/2,\,3\pi/2]\). It is proved that for \(c<2\) there exists \(\beta_1\in (0,\,\pi/2)\) so that if \(\beta_1<\beta<\pi/2\) then this equation has a running periodic solution, and the attractor \(\mathcal A\) of the associated system in the phase space is not homeomorphic to a circle. For \(c>2\) the running periodic solution is destroyed by a homoclinic bifurcation and the equilibria become globally attracting. The paper is motivated by the known similar behaviour of the Tricomi equation, where \(h(x)=\sin(x)\).
