This is an interesting contribution to metric uniform distribution and a continuation of earlier papers of the author on strong uniform distribution [Acta Arith. 56, 183--193 (1990; Zbl 0716.11036); Monatsh. Math. 132, 341--348 (2001; Zbl 1015.11037); Indag. Math., New Ser., 14, 233--240 (2003; Zbl 1054.11038)]. A typical result is the following. Let \((a_i)\) be a sequence of positive integers such that for each (non-constant) \(f\in L^1[0,1]\) the Cesaro means \(A_N(f,x)\) of \(f(\{a_ix\})\) converge to the integral \(\int_0^1f(t)\,dt\) almost everywhere. \noindent Then \[ \sum_{N=1}^\infty| A_{N+1}(f,x)-A_N(f,x)| =\infty \] for almost all \(x\in[0,1)\). Similar results are shown also for \(f\in L^p[0,1]\).
