The author studies the group of units of QWitt rings, whose notion was defined by \textit{T. Craven} and \textit{M. Vo} [in Bull. Aust. Math. Soc. 73, No. 1, 47-64 (2006; Zbl 1103.13016)] as follows: a QWitt ring is the quotient ring of a Witt subring of the ring of continuous functions \(f\) from a finite set \(X\) into the set of integers obtained by mapping the element \(x\) to \(f(x)+n_x\mathbb{Z}\) instead of \(f(x)\), where the set of natural numbers \(n_x\) is called the data associated with the QWitt ring. First the group of units of QWitt rings with data \(n_x\) consisting of 2-powers is considered: in this case the group of units is isomorphic to \(1+J\), where \(J\) is the Jacobson radical, and its exponent coincides with the maximum of the data. A finite Abelian 2-group is called a QWitt group if in the direct decomposition the number of cyclic factors of order 2 is not less than the number of all the other factors. The author proves that the group of units is a QWitt group, and every QWitt group can be the group of units of a QWitt group. Moreover, the structure of QWitt rings with arbitrary data is also described.
