The authors are concerned with streamline diffusion finite element solutions (SDFEM) to a homogeneous Dirichlet boundary value problem attached to a usual singularly perturbed elliptic 2D problem. On a Shishkin mesh they show a supercloseness result in the sense that, in a certain norm, the convergence order of \(u^I -u^N\) is greater than that of \(u-u^I\), where \(u^I\) is the interpolant of the solution \(u\) from the finite element space, and \(u^N\) is the SDFEM solution. Then, to the obtained numerical solution a local post processing technique is applied. Some numerical experiments are carried out in order to support the theoretical results.
