Largely motivated by the results of \textit{J. W. Rainey} and \textit{G. J. Habetler} [Math. Comput. 26, 121--128 (1972; Zbl 0269.65024)] on a tridiagonal factorization of a totally nonnegative matrix, this paper establishes \(m\)-banded factorizations of some sign regular matrices preserving their sign structures. Several consequences are discussed, namely eigenvalue interlacing properties and majorization relations for specific sign regular matrices.
