The authors study the existence of periodic traveling waves in a 2D lattice of Klein-Gordon type with nearest neighbour interactions. To this end they apply a Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction with respect to the trivial solution and identify the corresponding bifurcation equation. Afterwards they prove the existence of monochromatic and bichromatic waves with small amplitudes using concepts from singularity theory. They also discuss the direction dependence of the basic wave parameters and draw some implications for certain 1D lattices with nonlocal interactions.
