    The paper states general solutions of 2-D piezoelectricity leading to all solutions of corresponding boundary values problems. The used compliance-based formalism is extended to include piezoelectric effects. In this case the eigenmatrix function that governs the eigenvector has the dimension \(3 \times 3\), the number of distinct types of eigenvalues is equal to 11, and the number of distinct classes of materials achieves 14 (including nondegenerate and degenerate piezoelectric materials). Each distinct class of materials has a peculiar representation of the general solution in terms of four complex conjugate pairs of eigensolutions of the zeroth or higher orders, each containing an arbitrary analytic function. The main results of the paper are summarized in nine theorems. First, it is stated the general solution of 2-D linear piezoelectricity. Then, it is proved that the eigenvalues cannot be real if the material has a positive-definite energy density. Consideration of normal, abnormal and superabnormal eigenvalues for eigenmatrix states that the number of independent zeroth-order eigensolutions possessed by a normal, abnormal and superabnormal eigenvalues is exactly one, two and three, respectively. Further, the derivative rule is found for determining the higher-order eigensolutions of a multiple eigenvalue. Then, there are defined eigensolutions of a normal eigenvalue, proved independence of eigenvectors, stated eigensolutions of a double abnormal eigenvalue, and also determined eigenvectors and eigensolutions of abnormal eigenvalues. Explicit expressions are obtained for the eigensolutions, the pseudometrics and the intrinsic tensors characterizing piezoelectric materials of every type. The present analysis by using the compliance-based formalism allows one to obtain the simplified eigenvectors in compare with stiffness-based, extended Eshelby-Stroh formalism.
