Let \(p\) be a prime number. A space \(X\) is said to be \(v_*\)-torsion if its homotopy groups are concentrated at \(p\) and its \(v_n\)-periodic homotopy groups vanish for \(n\geq 1\). The first result of the paper is a characterization of \(v_*\)-spaces. For any space \(W\), let \(\mathcal B_W\) denote the class of spaces which can be built from \(W\), and \(T(\mathcal B_W)\) the smallest class of spaces containing \(\mathcal B_W\) that is thick with respect to fibrations. Then a space \(X\) is \(v_*\)-torsion if and only if \(X\) belongs to \(T(\mathcal B_W)\) for any finite \(W\) with nontrivial mod-\(p\) homology. The class of \(v_*\)-torsion spaces is not closed under homotopy colimits. However this class is stable under some geometric realization. More precisely suppose that \(X\) is a simplicial space such that each \(X_n\) is connected and \(v_*\)-torsion with an abelian fundamental group, then \(| X|\) is also \(v_*\)-torsion. Finally suppose that \(X\) is a pointed connected space and \(W\) is a simply connected finite CW-complex concentrated in \(p\), then the homotopy fibers of the natural map from the Stover-Blanc simplicial resolution \(R_W(X)\) to the \(W\)-cellular approximation of \(X\), \(\text{Cell}_W(X)\) are \(v_*\)-torsion.
