    Minimal convex compact valued upper semicontinuous (cusco) mappings of a topological space to a locally convex linear topological space are characterized by the existence of selections. The present investigation is closely related to the characterization of minimal upper semicontinuous mappings between topological spaces by the authors in [Rocky Mt. J. Math. 39, No. 2, 545--562 (2009; Zbl 1178.54004)]. It is shown that a compact valued \(F:X\to Y\) is minimal cusco if and only if there is a quasicontinuous and subcontinuous selection \(f\) of \(F\) such that each value \(F(x)\) is the closed convex hull of the \(x\)-section of the closure of the graph of \(f\). For convex compact valued mappings \(F\) a characterization of minimal cusco mappings via selections taking values in the extreme points of \(F(x)\) is also given.
