\textit{G. Pisier} [Ann. Math. (2) 115, 375--392 (1982; Zbl 0487.46008)] showed that any \(w^*\)-continuous semigroup \((T_t)_{t\geq 0}\) of positive unital self-adjoint Fourier multipliers on a locally compact abelian group \(G\) induces a strongly continuous bounded analytic semigroup \((T_t\otimes \operatorname{Id}_X)_{t\geq 0}\) of contractions on \(L^p(G,X)\) for any \(1<p<\infty\) whenever \(X\) is \(K\)-convex, i.e., the Rademacher projection is bounded on \(L^2(\Omega, X)\). He conjectured that the same result should hold for any \(w^*\)-continuous semigroup \((T_t)_{t\geq 0}\) of self-adjoint contractive operators on \(L^\infty(\Omega)\). The author presents a partial answer to the conjecture, namely, that, if \((T_t)_{t\geq 0}\) is a \(w^*\)-continuous semigroup of self-adjoint contractive Fourier multipliers on \(L^\infty(G)\) and \(X\) is a \(K\)-convex space isomorphic to a Banach space \(E\) for which the Schatten class \(S^p(X)\) is \(K\)-convex for some (equivalently all) \(1<p<\infty\), then \((T_t\otimes \operatorname{Id}_X)_{t\geq 0}\) is a strongly continuous bounded analytic semigroup of contractions on the Bochner space \(L^p(G,X)\). A~version of such a result for semigroups of Schur multipliers and Fourier multipliers on non-commutative \(L^p\)-spaces is also provided.
