The authors investigate a practical realization of some explicit block iterative methods on a parallel computer. They consider a finite difference approximation scheme of the boundary value problem \(u_{xx}+u_{yy}=0\) for (x,y)\(\in (0,1)\times (0,1)\) and \(u(x,y)=g(x,y)\) on the boundary. Experiments are made with 4, 6, 9 and 16-point block methods using three different strategies of parallel implementation and experimental results are given.
