A subset \({\mathcal D}\) of a topological space X is said to be robust iff cl \({\mathcal D}=cl int {\mathcal D}\). A function \(f:X\to {\mathbb{R}}^ 1\) is said to be robust if the set \(\{\) \(x\in X|\) \(f(x)<c\}\) is robust for all \(c\in {\mathbb{R}}^ 1\). The paper deals with elementary properties of robust sets and functions. The structure of robust sets and discontinuities of robust functions on the real line are investigated in detail.
